New Products Debut at the CBD Shanghai Expo
We exhibited at the International Building and Construction Trade Fair in Shanghai, in the CBD expo programme, and the stand was built around five systems rather than the full catalogue. That was a deliberate choice: a trade fair visitor gives a stand about ninety seconds, and a wall of thirty profiles communicates less than five well-explained ones.
The five systems
- 103 series casement window. The workhorse residential unit: compression seal, multi-point locking, and enough frame depth to carry a reasonable sash size at residential wind loads.
- 86 series top-hung window. Used above fixed glazing and in applications where the opening has to shed water rather than admit it, since the sash opens outward at the bottom.
- 60 series sliding window. The volume product for markets where budget and ventilation matter more than thermal performance.
- 65 series sliding door. The standard residential patio door, sized for a two-panel or three-panel opening.
- 108 series high door. A taller leaf for full-height openings, where the frame stiffness and the hardware load rating become the design constraints.
What buyers asked about
Three questions dominated the stand, and none of them were about appearance. The first was certification: which systems carry test reports, and which markets accept them. The second was the minimum order and the lead time for a mixed container. The third was whether we could supply a project package rather than a product, meaning windows, doors and the interface details together.
The third question is the one that has shaped how we work since. A buyer sourcing windows, doors and curtain wall from three suppliers spends the project managing the interfaces between them, and those interfaces are where water enters and where schedules slip.
The stand itself
Simple, with full-size units rather than photographs, and cutaways at the corner joints and the glass edge so a visitor could see the seal system rather than hear about it. The cutaways were the most-handled items on the stand, which is a useful signal: buyers who know what they are looking at want to see the section, not the finish.
